Description

This project is complete. Reported accomplishments include (a) The development of artificial propogation guidelines for use in tribal programs; (b) A review of the current literature on the genetic and environmental effects of the various types of artificial production on natural stocks, which built on the foundation established by Whiteaker and Talbot (2002) in their Review of the literature on the ESU concept and Artificial Propagation of Endangered Species by including subsequent publications from scientific journals that clarified our understanding of the known and empirically tested effects of artificial production; (c) Coordination with federal processes. Several draft documents on the technical elements of a sound artificial production policy were prepared at the request of NOAA Fisheries.

Project Benefit

An opportunity to determine how hatchery-reared or hatchery-bred fish are to count toward restoration for the purpose of recovery of listed populations.
