Description
The objectives of the project were met. The proposed objectives included construction of four miles of fence to protect critical anadromous fish habitat in Mill and Johns Creek, SF Clearwater River. The fence was to include exclusion of cattel from Merton Creek within Mill Creek and Buck Meadows within Johns Creek. Both meadows were negatively impacted by cattle grazing. The fence construction was completed in 2002 and was monitored for effectiveness in 2003. There were no reports of cattle within the fenced area.
Project Benefit
Sedimentation reduction, continual riparian shading, and riparian protection from degradation due to hoof-shear from cattle trampling the stream banks.
