Description

One 80-acre parcel was purchased in Iskuulpa Watershed in January 2001. Seventy acres purchased at Minthorn Springs between July 2001 and July 2002. An additional 218 acres were purchased in June 2004 with a total of 0.33 stream miles treated.

Project Benefit

Iskuulpa Watershed - Provides the highest summer steelhead spawning density observed in 13 streams of the Umatilla Basin, averaging 9.1 redds/mile since 1994. Approximately 0.3 stream miles would be protected. The acquisition at Minthorn Springs permanently protects an important cold-water source, a geomorphically diverse floodplain, and associated wetlands.

As appropriate for the fee parcel acquired, pertinent monitoring parameters would include 1) habitat structural characteristics (woody debris rates, riparian vegetation cover, longitudinal and cross-section channel surveys) and 2) redd counts. For all parcels, monitoring would include maintaining consistency with CTUIR zoning which prohibit timber harvest within riparian buffers and development.
