Salmon Recovery Planning

There are many interconnected agencies and groups involved in salmon stock and habitat preservation and recovery efforts. The main groups include the Lake Ozette Technical Review Team, the Lake Ozette Sockeye Steering Committee, WRIA 19 and WRIA 20 planning groups, the Hatchery Scientific Review Group, and the North Olympic Peninsula Lead Entity (both LEG and TRT groups and the SRFB). Funding will support Makah Tribal participation in these groups and coordination of research efforts with projects being done by other groups or agencies.


We also plan to use a portion of these funds to work on the Lake Ozette Limiting Factors report and integrate this with our Lake Ozette baseline habitat inventory to develop a habitat recovery plan, to expand the Hoko River Fall Chinook HGMP to include reintroduction into the Sekiu and Pysht rivers, and to support development of proposals for various funding sources.

Funding of Salmon Recovery planning allows and supports participation and coordination in groups and meetings that affect regional salmon restoration planning, habitat preservation and restoration, stock management and funding efforts. It will also facilitate completion of the Lake Ozette Limiting Factors report and development of an overall Lake Ozette Sockeye Recovery Plan.
