Technical Salmon Recovery Planning

This project contributes to salmon recovery in the Makah U&A and the North Olympic Peninsula regions by providing funding for participation in 1) Ozette sockeye recovery planning, including TRT efforts to develop numerical goals and population units needed for recovery, as well as a formal recovery plan; 2) North Olympic Peninsula Lead Entity Group (NOPLEG) and Technical Recovery Group (TRG) salmon recovery planning efforts; 3) PST coho and sockeye planning processes to reconstruct stock abundances and model population dynamics. The final element of this project, is 4) Expansion of the Hoko HGMP to include chinook reintroduction to the Sekiu, Clallam, and Pysht rivers, where chinook have been all but extirpated (Hoko chinook are the nearest remnant locally-adapted stock). The Tribe will be actively involved in coordinated multi-agency modeling and data analysis, where the synthesis of information from research, monitoring, stock assessment, population modeling, and salmon habitat restoration efforts will be used in salmon recovery planning and programs.

Project contributes to assuring that technically sound, efficient, and prioritized methods are implemented to produce significant long-term benefits to salmon. Modeling will be used to increase understanding of population dynamics.
