Description

The purpose of this project is to understand status and trends of salmonid populations within the Coastal Species Management Unit (SMU). Fish were collected with adult and out-migrant traps at specific sites. Coho were the primary targets for trapping but information on Chinook , steelhead, chum, and cutthroat was also collected. Estimates of adult returns, smolt production, and marine and freshwater survival were calculated by site. Data from this monitoring effort have been used in annual reports, management and restoration decisions, publications, presentations, and for other purposes.

Project Benefit

This project functions to implement ODFW’s Oregon Plan Monitoring Program, which provides data on the status and trends in anadromous fish populations and their habitats. Information and analysis provided by the monitoring program are essential to the management and recovery of salmonid populations. The data are critical for evaluating general status. The Oregon Plan Monitoring Program continues a long term commitment to status and trend monitoring of adult and juvenile fish abundance and distribution and stream habitat and riparian conditions. The monitoring data provides information about abundance, productivity, survival, distribution, diversity, and viability of salmon and steelhead in support of conservation and recovery planning and implementation.
