Description
Technical professionals from the State of Alaska Large Mine Permitting Team (LMPT) participated in the Canadian permitting process by reviewing and commenting on the technical studies and design proposals for several Canadian mining projects. Specific Canadian mine proposals reviewed during this timeframe include Galore Creek, Red Chris, Schaft Creek, Tulsequah Chief, and Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell (KSM).
Project Benefit
The anticipated benefits of this project include consideration of Alaska concerns in the Canadian mine permitting process; inclusion of measures that are appropriately protective of Alaska interests into project designs and permits; continued Alaska involvement with project review, and monitoring if Canadian mine projects move forward; and protection of Alaska water quality, water quantity, and fisheries resources.
