Description

The project will restore the natural function of the riparian corridor by establishing appropriate successional stage native species in areas currently devoid of riparian habitat. Riparian vegetation is presently lacking native woody vegetation and naturalized grasslands extend into the stream channel banks along Stotenburg Creek. The riparian area is lacking later successional species, such as conifer tree, that can provide a long-term source of instream large wood to promote pool formation, instream cover, and habitat complexity. The riparian planting pallet includes coast redwood, Sitka spruce, and Oregon Ash that will enhance this diversity. The project will install large wood structures to accelerate instream processes while the riparian habitat matures. The project will also address riparian dysfunction by removing invasive plants and excluding livestock.

Project Benefit

The project will improve bank stability, shade, and food inputs; increase native plant biodiversity and streambank stability. Riparian fencing will improve water quality and ensure long-term protection of the habitat.
