Middle Crabtree Creek Restoration - Phase 2 - PE

The activities funded by this grant included plant establishment activities and assess plant growth and survival at two locations long Crabtree Creek. Additionally, this grant funded noxious weed management, monitoring for project components and interplanting where plant success was reduced for various reasons. This project built on other nearby work in the basin, bringing much needed shading and plant species diversity to the creekside. Over time, these plantings will also provide a primary source of food and habitat for both terrestrial and aquatic species, creating the foundation of a robust food web.

This project will maintain native tree and shrub plantings on 32 riparian acres in the Crabtree Creek watershed, an important basin offering spawning and rearing habitat for ESA-listed spring Chinook and winter steelhead. In the short term, native trees and shrubs will help filter pollutants, slow fine sediment contributions to the water, and offer floodplain complexity. As the plantings mature, the short term benefits will continue, as well as additional benefits will accrue from stream shading and leaf litter/wood contributions into Crabtree Creek.
