Description

This project implemented Year 1 of the Molalla Watershed Rapid (RBA) and covered the Upper Molalla River Watershed. This first phase of the RBA quantified the abundance and distribution of ESA-listed spring Chinook and coho salmon, winter and summer steelhead, and rainbow and cutthroat trout in 93.1 miles of tributaries and the mainstem Molalla River.

Project Benefit

The upcoming Upper Willamette River Recovery Plan calls for numerous implementation actions to recover Molalla River spring chinook salmon and winter steelhead, including a reintroduction of wild spring chinook to the basin using hatchery stock. It is vital that Molallas fish populations are documented before the plan is implemented to determine an accurate baseline in order to meet the goals outlines in the plan and to identify where restoration activities will be most successful.
