Description
The Skokomish Indian Tribe used this funding to focus on a degraded section of the Big Quilcene River with a history of manipulation that has constricted and isolated the channel from the floodplain, resulting in channel incision that has severely degraded in-stream salmonid habitat.
This project completed three activities:
1) Reach analysis to assess current and historic data (photo record, channel locations, anthropogenic impacts, etc.) on channel migration in the floodplain, habitat and geomorphological conditions. This analysis supports the other activities.
2) Cooperative work with the landowner to protect his land in perpetuity and ensure the permanence of restoration activities.
3) Acquisition of 15 acres of riverfront along the Big Quilcene River.
Project Benefit
The goal of the project is to protect and increase/improve information to help select projects that have a high certainty and benefit. The objective of the project is to protect and determine feasibility of creating or reconnecting off-channel habitat. Accomplishments
