Description

The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group used this funding for a cooperative fish passage project with Jefferson County, the Point no Point Treaty Tribes, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. We replaced two undersized culverts on Tarboo Creek that were perched and too small. Both of these culverts were determined to be total blockages to salmonids as determined by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The one under Dabob Road was replaced with a 12’ structural plate aluminum culvert and the one under Center Road was replaced with a 15 pipe arch aluminum culvert. This project opened 3.8 miles of the north and south stems of Tarboo Creek, which opened 1,691 acres of the 7,000 acre Tarboo watershed that is habitat to chum, coho, cutthroat trout, and steelhead.

Project Benefit

The goal of the project is to connect isolated habitat to increase the range and distribution of salmon.

The objective of the project is to increase access to areas blocked by human-caused impediments.
