Description

NWIFC asked the HSRG to review 2016 tribal project list to ensure projects are consistent with HSRG recommendations and priorities or were necessary for hatchery reform.

W/S = worksite

W/S #1: Monitor contribution of hatchery & natural-origin sockeye via adult monitoring and data analysis: Umbrella Creek Big River and Lake Ozette adult returns.

W/S #2: Project will recover otoliths, CWTs and scale samples Tissue analysis estimates contribution rates of hatchery- and natural-origin returns

W/S #3: Rotary screw trap to be operated on mainstem Stillaguamish River to capture emigrant hatchery and wild Chinook smolts.

W/S #4: Collecting tissue samples from Snohomish Chinook broodstock hatchery- and natural-origin adult Chinook for mark-recapture DNA analysis.

W/S #5: Juvenile monitoring via rotary screw trap operated in part to determine presence of calcein marks.

W/S #6: Tissue analysis project will fund lab techs, equipment & supplies for otolith processing, ageing and mark identification.

W/S #7: Evaluate microstructure chemical & isotopic analysis potential based on otoliths collected from 3 release groups of Baker River-origin sockeye fry.

W/S #8: Sauk River summer Chinook carcass sampling to monitor hatchery practices. Second element to use DNA samples collected to conduct genetic analysis to determine level of introgression

W/S #9: By collecting additional otoliths & tissue samples should allow Lummi and Nooksack Natural Resources an improved evaluation of operations in addition to CWTs.
