Description

The Cowlitz Conservation District replaced a culvert that was a partial barrier. The culvert was located on designated forestland owned by Ed Roller and was a partial barrier to chum, coho, steelhead and searun cutthroat trout in Salmon Creek, a tributary to the Cowlitz River in Township 9N, Range 2 West, section 2. There is 3.31 miles (5323 meters) of habitat gain to first known total barrier - Dam site # 992221. The landowner had observed salmon at the culvert. There are no barriers downstream. The project removed the two corrugated metal pipes and replaced them with a 16 ft wide by 50 ft long prefabricated steel I-beam bridge span.

Project Benefit

The goal of the project is to connect isolated habitat to increase the range and distribution of salmon.

The objective of the project is to increase access to areas blocked by human-caused impediments.
