Description

Project located on Thadbar Creek in the Grays River beginning at the confluence of the Grays River upstream about 2600 feet. The project emphasis is on restoring riparian function along both sides of Thadbar Creek (20 acres with average buffer width of 180 feet) and installing woody debris (14 structures). Riparian restoration will help to decrease stream temperature, add nutrients, and eventually provide a source of material to increase instream structure. Woody debris will increase instream structure in the near term, this will create pool habitat for adult and juvenile refuge and for juvenile rearing. The structures will also sort and stabilize sediment to improve spawning habitat. Thadbar Creek supports Chum, Coho, and Winter Steelhead. The project emphasis is on restoring riparian function along both sides of Thadbar Creek (20 acres with average buffer width of 180 feet) and installing woody debris (14 structures).

Project Benefit

The goal of the project is to implement a salmon recovery project that addresses the high priority restoration needs and limiting factors for priority lifestages within 2500 feet of Thadbar Creek. The project will improve the riparian function along both banks of the creek creating channel stability, moderating stream temperature, and reducing erosion. Instream structure will be increased with the installation of large woody debris resulting in improved spawning beds and increased pool frequency and depth for rearing and refuge.
