Description
The Lower Columbia Fish Enhancement Group completed the Haapa Habitat Restoration Phase I restoration project which is located in the North Fork (NF) Lewis River 5 (RM 13.8-14.2), a Tier 1 (highest priority) reach in the Lower Columbia Salmon Recovery and Fish & Wildlife Subbasin Plan (LCFRB 2010) and home to ESA listed populations of Chinook, Chum, Coho, and winter Steelhead. This project enhanced 6.9 acres of riparian habitat by removing noxious weeds including plantings with over 16,900 native riparian trees/shrubs. The project also installed floodplain roughness structures. This project also installed large woody debris (LWD) structures along 1,100 ft of the NF Lewis main stem to enhance margin rearing habitat benefitting juvenile and adult salmonids.
Project Benefit
Enhanced margin rearing habitat benefitting juvenile and adult salmonids Chinook, Chum, Coho, and winter Steelhead.
