Description

Trout Unlimited Washington Water Projects (TU-WWP) Chewuch River Permanent Instream Flow Enhancement Project was an integrated restoration project in the Methow sub-basin, WRIA 48. This project enhanced flows in the Chewuch River during the low-flow periods of late summer through winter seasons when the river falls below 100 cfs. A combination of water right contracts and extensive irrigation upgrades were used to accomplish the goal of enhanced aquatic habitat for listed fish species in the Chewuch and Methow Rivers. TU-WWPs Chewuch project addressed multiple documented limiting factors to listed salmonids. No water rights were purchased with the project - we only improved the efficiency of the irrigation system which allows the water savings to be enrolled into the Washington Water Trust Program.

Project Benefit

To 10-25 cfs in the Chewuch River by changing the timing of diversions and management of the Chewuch Canal as a result of improved infastructure for the Chewuch Canal. This was a great project for improving usable area and moderating climate change effects into the future for listed species.
