Description

The Land Trust permanently protected two parcels (totaling 4.1 acres) through fee acquisition and protected and additional 1.5 acres through a permanent conservation easement along the Middle Reach of Ohop Creek between river mile 5.6 and 6.2. These properties include 1,700 feet of Ohop Creek shoreline along a critical spawning reach and significant portions of these properties are within the Ohop Creek floodplain. This reach of Ohop Creek is utilized by Chinook, chum, coho, pink, and steelhead. Permanently protecting these properties supports salmon recovery partner efforts to enhance and restore in-stream, riparian, and floodplain processes and habitats along this reach of the creek.

Project Benefit

Permanently protect priority freshwater shoreline, riparian, and floodplain habitats. Provide opportunity for salmon recovery partners to increase the amount of fully functioning riparian habitat along Ohop Creek to support Nisqually Chinook and steelhead recover goals.
