Knapp Creek I Diversion -Fish Passage Improvement Design

Knapp Creek I diversion, located on Knapp Creek, tributary to Marsh Creek in the Middle Fork Salmon River watershed, impedes fish passage and has degraded channel conditions. Project partners will work with a private landowner on a design to restore fish passage at the Knapp Creek I diversion to 14 miles of upstream habitat. Design will include the removal of instream impediments, reconstruction of a fish-friendly point of diversion and headgate installation.

When implemented, project benefits will include improving passage at all life stages for all fish and enhance and extend connectivity in the stream corridor and increase fish passage on Knapp Creek. Water management via Idaho Department of Water Resources and enhanced management under the Salmon-Challis National Forest will result in improvements in the condition of the stream and riparian vegetation and help facilitate the restoration of natural processes in the Knapp Creek watershed.
