Description
This project supports genetic analyses of hatchery and natural salmon populations is used to address questions of population structure and gene flow. Harvest composition may also be determined in order to quantify effects on populations of interest. Genetic analysis will also be used to reconstruct pedigrees that are used avoid inbreeding and preserve the variety of genetics in management of captive brood programs. Pedigrees will be used in parentage-based tagging and genetic mark-recapture studies that improve estimates of hatchery contribution to harvest, to natural reproduction, and of total spawner escapement.
Project Benefit
The project ensures tribal hatcheries are utilizing best management practices to ensure the genetic integrity of species under propagation. Funding Details |
