Description    


During the 2020 survey season, the Butte Creek spring-run Chinook salmon (Oncoryhnchus tshawystcha) (SRCS) adult holding survey was conducted August 4 to 7, 2020. The three reaches from Quartz Bowl Pool to the CCB were surveyed on three consecutive days. The CHD to Quartz Bowl Pool reach was conducted on August 12, 2020. A mark-recapture adult spawning survey (Cormack Jolly-Seber model) took place from 09/22/2020 through 11/05/2020 and was used to generate an escapement estimate to define the size of the spawning population. During the 2021 survey season, juvenile outmigration monitoring took place on Butte Creek at Parrott-Phelan Dam from 01/01/2021 through 06/01/2021. Additionally, 14 juvenile spring-run Chinook salmon were acoustic tagged at Parrot-Phelan Dam between 04/26/2021 and 05/07/2021. The Vaki RiverWatcher (Vaki) at Durham Mutual Fish Ladder was operated from 02/01/2021 through 05/30/2021.

Project Benefit    


The long-term data sets of all life stages of Butte Creek SRCS are essential in providing baseline population information and help serve as a metric for assessing recovery under the Endangered Species Act. Additionally, tracking populations trends helps to evaluate the collective effectiveness of Butte Creek habitat restoration.
