Description

From June 2018 throughout September 2018, staff from Palmer Soil and Water Conservation District set fish traps and looked for fish passage barriers at the selected 27 tributaries with the intention of documenting the presence of anadromous fish for the AWC and identifying restoration needs.

Project Benefit

This project directly contributes to the conservation of salmon and/or steelhead habitat by surveying over 150 kilometers of tributaries to the Matanuska River. The AWC specifies which streams, rivers, and lakes are vital to anadromous fish species and therefore afforded protection under AS 16.05.871. Water bodies that are not specified within the AWC are not given that protection. To be protected under AS 16.05.871, water bodies must be documented as supporting some life function of an anadromous fish species.
