Description
This project protected the following two parcels of land through acquisition and the placement of a conservation easement:
The Settlers Bay parcel on Knik Arm was transferred to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough to be managed as a coastal park and protects 119 ha of land including 3.5 km of anadromous stream and .8 km of coastline; this land would have been developed into suburban housing.
The Thorsheim Drainage on Afognak Island was transferred to the State of Alaska and protects 790 ha including 7.2 km of coastline and 3.7 km of anadromous stream; this land would have been logged.
This project utilizes funds from PCSRF grant NA14NMF4380332; no funds from this grant were used past its end date.
Project Benefit
This project will permanently conserve via conservation easement or fee simple acquisition 500 acres or more of critical spawning, rearing, and migration habitat for Chinook, coho, sockeye, chum, and pink salmon, as well as steelhead. Accomplishments
