Description
The Hoh Tribe used this funding for the collection of LiDAR data and the production of bare earth digital elevation models (DEMs) for watersheds within the Tribes Usual & Accustomed Area, which includes the 300-sq.mile Hoh River drainage and 5 smaller, independent coastal drainages, totaling approx. 91 sq. miles. Airborne Light Detection and Ranging and digital photogrammetry allowed a cost effective, spatially extensive acquisition of basin-wide habitat data with sufficient detail and elevation accuracy to inventory and manage resources and design watershed restoration projects.
Project Benefit
The bare earth digital elevation models generated by this project will be used by the Hoh Tribe and shared with government entities, other tribes and non-government organizations for the purpose of salmon recovery, i.e. engineered logjam designs, protection and enhancement of valuable spawning and rearing habitat and relocation of roads in the channel migration zone.
