Description: These data depict the habitat areas addressed in the NMFS' final rule to designate critical habitat under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA) for Lower Columbia River Coho (81 FR 9252, February 24, 2016). The data include not only the stream segments designated as critical habitat, but also the stream segments occupied by the species and NOT designated as critical habitat (i.e., deemed ineligible for ESA critical habitat designation or excluded from designation). Habitat areas were identified based on observation by, or the professional judgment of, federal, state, and tribal biologists. This shapefile was derived from datasets obtained from the following sources (as well as from comments and data received on the NMFS January 2013 proposed critical habitat designation):* Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) - http://rainbow.dfw.state.or.us/nrimp/* Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) - http://wdfw.wa.gov/mapping/salmonscape/The document "Designation of Critical Habitat for Lower Columbia River Coho Salmon and Puget Sound Steelhead FINAL Biological Report - December 2015" contains species distribution maps and data and identifies the specific GIS edits made between NMFS' proposed and final rules and is available online at:http://www.westcoast.fisheries.noaa.gov/protected_species/salmon_steelhead/salmon_and_steelhead_listings/steelhead/puget_sound/puget_sound_steelhead_proposed_critical_habitat_supporting_information.html*** NOTE - Users should pay special attention to notes in the GIS data attribute table re: areas excluded per the Washington Department of Natural Resources' (WDNR) Habitat Conservation Plan and the WDNR Forest Practices HCP (FPHCP). These areas were identified based on the best available information but users should contact the WDNR to determine where stream segments have site-specific overlap with theses HCPs.
