Data Set Information

Name
POPs and lipids in California harbor seals
Description
This data set contains concentrations of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and lipid content in blubber of young-of-the-year harbor seals (n=177) collected on the central California coast between 2007-2008. Samples were collected from stranded animals by The Marine Mammal Center, Sausalito, California. Samples were analyzed in order to investigate how geography and stage of development influenced levels of POPs in harbor seal pups, with funding from the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program of the Office of Protected Resources, National Marine Fisheries Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Department of Commerce. Analyses were conducted by the Environmental Chemistry Program, Northwest Fisheries Science Center, National Marine Fisheries Service using rigorous, documented performance-based analytical protocols and quality assurance criteria.
