The Seaboard Lumber Mill Project is a partnership between the Elliott Bay/Duwamish Restoration Program, Seattle Parks and Recreation and Seattle Public Utilities. Acquisition of the 16 acre site occurred in 1998 and future plans includes remedation of industrial contamination on site, creation of a natural intertidal basin at the shoreline, and areas of marsh, meadow and forest in the upland portion of the property. Habitat restoration will involve removal of pier, foundations and pavements. Extensive regrading and planting will be done to create an appropriate wetlands on the site. Restored wetlands at Seaboard will return critically needed estuarine aquatic habitat that has been lost in the Duwamish as well as serve as a demonstration of environmental reclamation in an urban setting. Funds requested as part of this proposal support approximately 48,000 square feet of riparian plantings. In addition, funds will be used for the acquisition, installation and monitoring of a Screw Trap for tracking juvenile salmonid movement throughout the Green River system. Information collected will be crucial for monitoring and adaptive management decisions throughout the basin.
