The WRIA 30 Technical Advisory Committee have determined that restoration projects in the Little Klickitat River should focus on livestock exclusion fencing (where appropriate), in-channel wood placement, bank stabilization and native vegetation planting. A Mr Paul Gregg came to the NRCS requesting implementation of a major restoration project on his ranch along the Little Klickitat River. BPA funds cover the on-going Gregg project, but now other neighbors want to participate, thus the need for the Salmon Recovery Program grant. This project aims to lower water temperatures, increase water quality and quantity, increase channel complexity, stabilize the banks and provide rearing and hiding cover habitat for salmonids. The Little Klickitat River Restoration project is a cooperative project between the Yakama Indian Nation, NRCS, Central Washington Conservation District, private landowners and Americorps. Currently, one mile of livestock exclusion fencing has been constructed, and native vegetation planting will begin in March, 1999.
