A small dam/ponding facility exists on Clover Creek upstream 100m from Gravelly Lake Dr. in Lakewood. The dam originally served as a water retention facility for a water wheel. The spill way for the weir is a velocity barrier at some flows and must be monitored frequently to insure fish passage. Maintenance is difficult as the site is on private property behind a locked gate. The project will incorporate a concrete fish ladder into the existing weir dam. This will eliminate the need for maintenance and will allow fish passage at all flows. This is the last fish passage issue requiring attention on the mainstem of Clover Creek, and will insure access for coho salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout in the creek to nearly 7 miles of habitat above the dam. Project partners include the City of Lakewood (providing a 20% funding match), South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group, and Puyallup Tribe. The project will be constructed in the summer of 2000.
