Description

Indian George Creek flows into Quilcene Bay 3/4 mi. south of the Big Quilcene River. In October, 1999 a crew funded by a DNR Jobs for the Environment grant rehabilitated the lower reach (460) of the creek, adding LWD, replacing a culvert and reconnecting an estuary to tidal flow. The project was not fully completed before the instream project window (Oct 30) ended and wet weather began. This phase of the project will: complete the original project by adding additional large woody debris to the stream channel; construct 3 additional log structures upstream to stabilize channel head-cutting, and complete final site grading. Targeted species are coho, steelhead, chum and cutthroat. There is a small spawning population of coho, steelhead, chum and cutthroat that utilize the creek and there is juvenile rearing and feeding in the lower reach due to the estuary at the downstream end of project. Planning is underway to further restore the estuary (not a component of this application). The timeframe to complete the project is summer of 2000.
