Primary objectives are: Improve headwater riparian function and sediment reduction in headwater riparian areas damaged by mass wasting and debris torrents. Upslope bioengineering techniques, and native vegetation to reduce velocity, sediment runoff to the M F Satsop River. The project location is approx. 10 miles from Wynoochee Lake immediately East of Grisdale, 45 miles north of Montesano. Walter Creek is a tributary to M.F.Satsop River. WRIA: 22.0044; Sec. 16 T22N R06W; Mason County. The focus of this restoration project will address approximately five acres reducing sediment input and loss of riparian habitat to headwater tributaries. The project will address limiting factors due to mass wasting and debris torrents. Although there is no watershed analysis for the M.F.Satsop similarities have been defined in the W.F.Satsop Watershed Analysis, the States Conservation Commission Chehalis Basin Limiting Factors Report, and USFWS study. Chehalis River Basin Fishery Resources: Status Trends, & Restoration Goals. This project will use revegetation and bioengineering techniques according to USFS specifications. Targeted stocks are Chum, Coho, Chinook, Steelhead, and Cutthroat Trout and Bull trout. Planning has been with the USFS & Columbia-Pacific RC&D during different courses of previous grants. G.H. Conservation District, USFS, WDFW, USFWS support these projects due to their success. Project implementation can be done during the year except late winter due to snow levels.
