JITW Okanogan Conservation District Unnamed Tributary to the Chewuch River riparian fencing and alternate livestock water facility. Funded FY2002. This project involves construction of approximately 1600 feet of fencing, built to NRCS specifications , to eliminate livestock access to an existing riparian area of an unnamed tributary to the Chewuch River. A solar powered pumping system will be installed into an existing well to supply water for livestock during the grazing season. A gravity fed stock water trough will also be installed approximately 100 feet from the preexisting well. This project will result in sediment reduction to the stream channel and imrove water quality, which will benefit downstream listed threatened Columbia River bull trout, endangered Upper Columbia River spring chinook salmon and endangered Upper Columbia River steelhead trout. This area has also been identified as very important habitat for summering neo-tropical song birds in a recent study conducted by the Methow Conservancy. This project continues past efforts in the Chewuch Watershed for protection and restoration of headwater riparian areas on private lands. The landowner will be doing the post project monitoring at this site. Under supervision from PWI staff, The landowner will set up photo monitoring transects.
