Description

Cheney High School, Marshall Community Coalition, in conjunction with the Spokane County Conservation District, Washington Department of Wildlife, Natural Resources and Conservation Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the E.P.A. are coolaborating in the enhancement, protection, and restoration of the Marshall Creek Watershed. Marshall Creek is a spring creek which has undergone many changes along its course over the last one hundred years. Restoration-enhancement/Protection includes riparian plantings and exclusion of livestock along most of its course. The stream has had more water allocated than is emitted from its head waters. One site (Horton site) is now producing 12-14 inch rainbow and brook trout, whereas seven years ago it lacked vegetation and experienced reduced flows due to extreme siltation. We are now starting a project that will place a section of the stream back into the original meadow, due to channelization that occured in the early 1900s.
