The Broadwater Conservation District in cooperation with area landowners and fishery interests is sponsoring the funding for projects to restore water quality, stream stability, and trout reproduction in an important fish spawning tributary to the Missouri River. The project builds on other recent projects including a siphon ($200,000) which allows an irrigation ditch to cross the creek without mixing with it. The siphon eliminated an impassable fish barrier and voluntary water mamagemet actions by landowners have restored more natural flows. Stream banks are being restored using natural materials where possible and with strong consideration given to hydrologic analysis. Information from the TMDL development was used to set priorities for stream and watershed restoration. (Recovery and Spawning ... ) 1. Promote the natural recovery of stream length, channel stability, and riparian vegetation of Deep Creek and to reduce sediment delivery from eroding banks. 2. Enhance trout spawning success in Deep Creek. 3. Provide information to landowners on Deep Creek on low cost erosion control measures. (TMDL): Goals--- 1. Describe Water Quality, bank conditions and stream habitat conditions that define nonpoint source pollution levels, 2. Identify remedial actions and TMDL targets for reducing fine sediment and increasing trout recruitment, and 3. Outline monitoring activities to assess the efficacy of remediation efforts.
