Description
Project has supported Hoh tribal participation in various watershed management, marine resources and salmon recovery work groups (WRIA 20 Watershed Management Implementation Body, Marine Resource Committee, the North Pacific Coast Lead Entity, the Wash. Coast Sustainable Salmon Partnership and the Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition). This funding has facilitated project development, supplementary funding procurement, site planning and management of salmon recovery projects; establishment of instream flow and water quality guidelines, consideration of marine resource issues and coordination with the Hoh Tribal government and business staff as it relates to salmon recovery endeavors. Specific examples of accomplishments include completion and adoption of the following management plans and strategies: • WRIA 20 Watershed Management Plan and Detailed Implementation Plan • WRIA 20 Salmon Recovery Strategy and Project Prioritization Matrix (NPCLEG) • Regional Salmon Recovery Strategy (WCSSP) Other Watershed and Sub-basin Planning activities: • Attended meetings (usually monthly) during the duration of PCSR FY-2009 funding, as technical and policy representatives • Reviewed, scored and ranked project proposals for the NPCLEG and the NPCMRC • Attended community potlucks, regional workshops and MRC summits • Met w/WSDOT to discuss and critique proposed Hoh II project • Participated in the Upper Hoh Road Engineering Work Group in developing environmentally-compatible infrastructure protection projects along the Hoh River
Project Benefit
Involvement with the various planning and strategy forums will ultimately result in comprehensive watershed management plans (WRIA 20), basin-specific salmon recovery strategies and formation of a coastal region lead entity and coast wide recovery strategy which will hopefully create a larger political voice for the restoration funding needs on the Washington coast.
