Description
Instream work began in September by widening and creating meanders in the current wetland channel and placing two culverts of corrugated plastic pipe (4 feet by 40 feet) using an excavator. Spoils were deposited on-site. All instream work was completed by Thursday, September 15th. Riparian planting and fencing has been completed.
Project Benefit
• complete restoration work on 0.5 miles of HIP coho winter rearing habitat; • provide useful information relating to coho winter rearing use of three small but commonplace habitat types; • provide useful information relating to the success of using various trees species in restoring tidally influenced areas; • provide a demonstration area for local landowners interested in learning about the compatibility of stream restoration in their farm operations; and • continue public outreach, education and liaison with landowners and complete 10 stream miles of on-the-ground validations of sites started under our 2008 PCSRF grant.

The Subbasin Plan contains a Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan and an Adaptive Management Plan which work together to focus restoration work where it does the most benefit.
Required annual and multi-year reports of the Subbasin Plan compile data from a variety of sources to monitor progress toward achieving the strategies of the plan. Implementation monitoring will document: 1) if projects were constructed as designed and on schedule; 2) the percent of total landowners contacted; and 3) number of miles where restoration of winter rearing restoration was accomplished. Effectiveness monitoring is required for all beaver re-introductions. All monitoring results are shared with stakeholders and are available to the public at www.coquilletribe.org
