Description
The egg picker, a Van Gaalen Fish Egg Sorter, was purchased for the Klickitat Hatchery. A small air compressor was purchased for this unit as well, as a dedicated air source for the sorters egg rejection port. Materials to construct a table to house the sorter during egg picking operations were also purchased.
Project Benefit
The use of an egg picker/counter would reduce the number of people required to pick and count salmon eggs incubated in the hatch-house, and make more efficient use of manpower for other production needs. An egg picker/counter is operated by one person, and can pick and count up to 100,000 eggs per hour. Having an accurate count of eggs, far more effective than volumetric weight measurements for egg enumeration, would improve production rearing in regards to adjusting feed rations and reaching the desired fish sizes dictated by programmed release goals Funding Details |
