Description
One hundred adult sockeye were captured and spawned in December. The combination of a relatively small escapement in 2005 (approx. 12,000) and unusually low flow conditions in November and high flows in December made brood stock capture difficult. Approximately 300,000 eggs were taken.
Otolith samples were processed and prepared for age determination and thermal mark detection.
Lab technicians continued otolith processing, reading and cataloging.
A summary progress report was entered into the NOAA Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Fund Database
Project Benefit
The supplementation program will provide larger returns of natural sockeye runs to the Quinault River, which will hopefully increase the total number of fry entering the lake to rear each year. Larger numbers of returning adults would directly result in better meeting the social and economic needs of the members of the Quinault Indian Nation. Habitat would be improved by increasing the nutrient load within the system
