Description

The Klamath Basin Specialist provided the Hoopa Valley Tribal Fisheries Department, the Office of Tribal Attorney, and the Tribes outside attorneys with valuable technical advice and oversight in a number of areas regarding the Tribes fishing rights. Areas of focus included the relicensing of the dams on the Klamath River and issues surrounding the implementation of the PCFFA settlement agreement.

Project goal
Klamath Basin Specialist (Consultant) provided technical services to the Hoopa Valley Tribe (Tribe). The near-term goals are for Klamath Basin Specialist are to:
• provide Tribal fisheries, policy and legal staff with technical assistance in Klamath River Hydroelectric Project relicensing proceedings,
• help the Tribe protect its interests under the PCFFA Settlement Agreement, and
• identify appropriate goals and activities related to its fisheries and aquatic resources based on a comprehensive needs assessment, along with recommendations for technical assistance that might be required during the foreseeable future.

Project Benefit

This project will provide informed policy guidance for Tribal Officials in guiding future efforts to protect the fisheries resource of the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
