Description
This project supports the Upper Skagit Tribes hatchery program, the programs goal is to release 500,000 Skagit Chum into the Skagit River. This program is designed to provide two primary benefits; one increase fishing opportunity as conservation measures limit harvest opportunities to protect weak stocks and the second is to raise awareness with Tribal youth about fishing cultures. This support help fund the operation and staff to run the hatchery and also supports one Annual Kids fishing Day. This project supported the collection, spawning, rearing and release of one full brood and the collection and spawning of one additional brood.
Project Benefit
Supplimentation of hatchery stocks will benefit tribal and recreational harvest. Harvest on hatchery stock will lessen the impact on natural stocks and provides economical and cultural benifits for tribal membership.
