Description
This project enabled the Tribe to provide the necessary level of monitoring of tribal harvest actions implemented by the Tribe as they relate to salmon recovery. The project included a Upper Skagit field officer and patrol vehicles with the assignment of monitoring areas within the watershed during the periods when chinook were present. The primary objective of this monitoring was listed species protection by reducing spawner poaching and monitoring legal harvest for restriction compliance. The project area included, Skagit Bay and River upstream to New Halem, Sauk, Cascade, Baker and Suiattle Rivers.
Project Benefit
Monitoring will benefit available Salmon spawners and ensure minimum escapement levels through effective monitoring and enforcement. Enforement will also minimize/reduce salmon poaching and provide a safe and productive environment for all harvesters.
