Description
SRSC used Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Funding to refine and implement the guiding principles and actions contained in the draft Skagit River Chinook Recovery Plan completed in June 2005. Actions included 1) the implementation of habitat and stock protection strategies; 2) the planning, development and implementation of specific habitat and stock restoration actions; and 3) the monitoring and evaluation of these actions for implementation of adaptive management strategies.
Project Benefit
This project supports the implementation of a recovery strategy detailed in the Skagit Chinook Recovery Plan chapter found in Volume two of the Shared Strategy for Puget Sound Recovery Plan submitted in draft form to NOAA fisheries in June of 2005. This document was finalized after a public comment period. The plan details specific actions related to harvest management. Habitat protection and restoration, specific research needs, detailed monitoring and adaptive management strategies all targeted at recovering six Skagit chinook populations were the identified and agreed upon recovery goal targets. Empirical estimates are included for each actions contribution to these recovery goals.
