Description
The Yakama Nation will use this grant to acquire about 458 acres, including 5.6 miles of the lower White Salmon River (WSR) corridor located in Skamania and Klickitat Counties, WA. This acquisition includes about 272 acres (59.5%) of riparian habitat and 186 acres (40.5%) of upland. This acquisition will protect intact, high-quality aquatic and riparian habitat critical for ESA-listed salmon, steelhead and other species, and prevent degradation and fragmentation by residential development, conserving the ecological processes, landscape integrity and biological diversity of the lower river. The project will benefit ESA-listed Coho, spring and fall Chinook, Chum, Steelhead and Bull Trout. The primary purpose of the acquisition is conservation of riparian ecosystems that support wildlife habitat.
