Yr. 33 Watershed Stewards Program in partnership with the California Conservation Corps and AmeriCorps

The California Conservation Corps Watershed Stewards Program in partnership with AmeriCorps (WSP) will engage 44 WSP Corpsmembers throughout CA to monitor and enhance anadromous watersheds through fisheries/habitat surveys, riparian restoration, community education/engagement, and by providing participants with insight into the environmental science field. WSPs habitat improvement strategy is multifaceted and has produced a greater understanding of watershed needs and solutions for over 30 yrs.

Each year WSP aims to restore at least 20 acres of salmonid habitat in 23 high-priority watersheds via 30+ small-scale volunteer restoration events known as Watershed Awareness Volunteer Events (WAVEs). WAVE activities vary based on watershed location and needs, but most commonly include native plant revegetation and invasive plant removal in riparian, upland, or estuarine habitat; instream fish-passage barrier removal via trash clean-ups; and installing stormwater management catchment systems to address water quality issues.
