Description

Project Objective: Assess habitat use and survival of juvenile salmonids to assess restoration effectiveness in Bogus, Jenny, and Shovel Creeks and guide future restoration efforts.

Project Description: The Klamath Basin Fisheries Collaborative is a partnership of over 30 entities within the Basin interested in facilitating the sharing of data related to PIT tag technology. A major reason the group was formed was to facilitate the establishment of a PIT tag detection network throughout the Klamath Basin in anticipation of dam removal. Bogus, Jenny, and Shovel Creeks were tributaries identified by the group as high priority tributaries to establish PIT tag infrastructure. Funds have been made available from other funding sources for the purchase of PIT tag equipment in these tributaries. However, there is currently no funding available for the installation and maintenance of these systems. The Yurok Tribal Fisheries Department is proposing to install and maintain PIT tag Stations in Bogus, Jenny, and Shovel Creek to assess habitat use and survival of juvenile salmonids.

Project Benefit

The establishment of these stations will provide information related to how juvenile Coho Salmon utilize habitat and survive within these three tributaries. Additionally, these stations contribute to the network of stations both upstream and downstream of these locations. Collectively, these stations will contribute to a better understanding of basin-wide movement, habitat use, and survival of both juvenile and adult salmonids.
