Greater Yamhill Watershed Council Capacity 2025-2027

The Greater Yamhill Watershed Council (GYWC) encompasses the Yamhill and Chehalem Watersheds, an area of more than 529,000 acres, ranging from the crest of the Coast Range to the Willamette River. This service area includes eight sub-basins and more than 1,000 stream miles. Council Capacity Support funding will help implement the strategic goals of the GYWC’s stakeholder-driven Watershed Restoration Action Plan. Funding will be used to conduct landowner recruitment, project development, volunteer engagement, stakeholder coordination, strategic planning, governance, organizational development, and fiscal management. Primary partners include Yamhill SWCD, Polk SWCD, NRCS, OWEB, ODFW, ODF, US BLM, USFWS, USFS, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, Cities of McMinnville and Newberg, as well as other small cities within the watershed boundary, Yamhill County Public Works, local school districts, Yamhill Watershed Stewardship Fund, local interest groups, and a diverse variety of private landownership.

The Greater Yamhill Watershed Council collaborates with community partners to foster a heightened understanding of our watershed, actively engage residents, and expedite the pace and effectiveness of aquatic, wetland, and riparian area restoration for Upper Willamette River Chinook and steelhead. Watershed goals include: Restore Aquatic Passage, Enhance Council Capacity, Provide a Community Resource Supporting Watershed Health, and Create Vibrant Partnerships.
