Coastal Salmonid Population Monitoring in the Russian River (2025-2028)

The purpose of this project is to monitor Coho Salmon and steelhead in the Russian River watershed by implementing methods outlined in the California Monitoring Plan (CMP). This project will conduct spawning ground surveys, snorkel surveys, and live cycle monitoring to provide estimates of adult and juvenile salmonid abundance, redd abundance and occupancy rates. These data will provide information useful in tracking the status of Coho Salmon and steelhead trout that are both listed species.
Project Benefit
Federal and state listings of these salmonids require monitoring to provide information to track recovery. The data provided by this monitoring effort are critical for maintaining continuity of long-term datasets and to inform recovery efforts for Coho Salmon in one of the largest watersheds for Central California Coast Coho Salmon ESU and Northern California steelhead DPS.
