Description

The Siuslaw Coho Partnership (SCP) was awarded Focused Investment Partnership (FIP) funding by OWEB in July 2022. As a component of the SCP’s FIP initiative, the SCP has developed and will implement an effectiveness monitoring plan. The plan will strategically guide our monitoring efforts throughout the duration of the FIP and beyond. The project managing organization, Siuslaw Watershed Council (SWC), contracted the services of Wolf Water Resources to develop the monitoring plan. Wolf Water Resources met regularly with the SCP Monitoring Committee in the field and via Zoom from October 2023 to May 2024. A final monitoring plan was delivered in May 2024 along with a file system for data storage and sharing and a draft amendment for the SCPs memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Project Benefit

The monitoring data and subsequent analysis will allow the Partnership to adaptively manage restoration actions to ensure we are protecting and restoring the natural processes for the conservation and recovery of OC Coho Salmon. A key step in developing a science-driven process for improving Coho habitat is monitoring and evaluation of the effect Siuslaw Coho Partnership (SCP) restoration actions have on the processes that create complex habitat and decrease summer stream temperatures. The ability to modify restoration techniques based on monitoring data is integral for the SCP. Monitoring effectiveness of restoration projects is an essential component to an adaptive management approach, which the partnership has adopted for the implementation of the SAPs and for this initiative.
