Southern Steelhead Coalition: Santa Monica Mountains to Santa Maria River

The Southern Steelhead Coalition (SSC/the Coalition) will continue to provide a forum for conservation groups working in the project area watersheds to coordinate efforts to implement multi-benefit, process-based ecosystem restoration projects, as informed by the Southern Steelhead Recovery and Management Plans. The mission and objectives of the coalition remain the same: we will work cooperatively to pool and leverage the expertise and skills of member organizations- many of whom are currently involved in restoration and conservation activities in the watershed- to expand capacity and develop efficiencies that will help achieve the necessary critical milestones for species recovery. Providing readily available forums for open discussion among practitioners and the public is pivotal to this mission.

The expanded Coalition project area, the drafting of a Strategic Plan, the deepening of the commitment to partnerships with tribes, the focus on RCDs, and the increased scope of the outreach and education program will advance fish species recovery, watershed restoration project impact, water infrastructure development, and strengthen coordination and communication amongst participating members of the Coalition.
