Description

The project aims to bolster environmental education by providing a robust curriculum focused on Steelhead Trout conservation and habitat preservation. It involves sponsoring 8 teachers and 3 tribal partners over 4 years to implement Trout in the Classroom Programs and associated activities. The primary goal is to enhance environmental education and promote conservation efforts related to Steelhead Trout and their habitat in San Diego County. Specific objectives include increasing awareness of watershed processes, fostering stewardship among students and community members, connecting students and adults to nature, and establishing connections between classrooms and tribal partners to broaden the programs impact and CDFWs efforts. We plan to reach over 800 students and adults each year for 4 years with classroom lessons, watershed field trips, tribal programs, community outreach, and assistance with Trout in the Classroom programming.

Project Benefit

This project is anticipated to benefit salmonids, particularly Southern Steelhead Trout, by fostering enhanced environmental education and awareness. Through targeted curriculum, hands-on experiences, and community engagement, the initiative aims to instill a conservation mindset and promote habitat conservation practices, contributing to the preservation and restoration of critical salmonid habitats in San Diego County.
